Escalating Violence Fuels Nuclear Ambitions: Israel, Iran, and the Failure of Force

📌 Violence Fuels the Atom: Why Military Strikes Cannot Dismantle Nuclear Ambitions

We strongly condemn the escalating violence between Israel and Iran in the US in proxy. The recent military strikes have dangerously inflamed global and regional tensions, accelerating the very same nuclear proliferation they claim to prevent.

Despite the devastating Israeli strikes, including the targeted killing of nuclear scientists and bombardments of nuclear infrastructures, Iran’s nuclear capabilities remain largely intact. The attacks, while tactically significant, have achieved only short-term disruption. At best, these strikes have delayed Iran’s nuclear potential by months. At worst, these strikes have hardened Iran’s resolve, pushing the prospect of peace, stability, and nuclear disarmament even further out of reach.

📌 Violence Breeds Determination, Not Disarmament

History teaches us that nations do not abandon nuclear ambitions under threat of force – they entrench them. The trauma inflicted on Iranian civilians, particularly the appalling loss of life among children and noncombatants, will not weaken nuclear resolve but strengthen the perception that only nuclear deterrence can prevent future aggression. This strategy mirrors precisely the rationale that originally drove Israel to build its undeclared nuclear arsenal, which has been developed outside the NPT regime.

📌 The Paradox of Deterrence: A Dangerous Global Signal

Israel’s actions send a perilous message to the world: that violence and military militaforce, not diplomacy, is the path to peace and peacwsecurity. This risks undermining decades of multilateral non-proliferation efforts under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), encouraging nations to pursue clandestine nuclear programs out of fear.  The NPT is essential as an international agreement aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and advancing global nuclear disarmament. Without accountability, global trust in non-proliferation norms will deteriorate.

📌 The Role of Youth and the Global Community

For a world free from nuclear weapons, Youth Fusion urges:

– States to accept the ICJ’s compulsory jurisdiction, particularly on nuclear weapons and disarmament matters. It plays a crucial role in upholding international law, promoting dialogue, and promoting global peace and security amid growing nuclear tensions;

– Israel to cease strikes violating international law immediately;

– Iran to return to verifiable limits and resume cooperation with the IAEA;

Common Security to be adopted to ensure that no one’s security needs are met at the expense of the security of other countries, including that of potential adversaries. This framework, rooted in diplomacy, conflict resolution, and international law, aligns with the principles of the UN Charter.

As a nuclear-armed state, if Israel were genuinely committed to advancing nuclear disarmament, it would take steps toward dismantling its nuclear arsenal and engage constructively in United Nations negotiations to establish a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and others of mass destruction—instead of targeting a country that has renounced nuclear weapons and actively proposed such a zone.
