
Youth Fusion proudly participated in at the United Nations for the 2025 Preparatory Committee of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in several differnt ways to make sure that the youth voice for non-proliferation does not go unheard.
Speaking at the UN in New York, Youth Fusion representative Rehan Mahmood delivered a plenary address on behalf of global youth, calling for a shift toward cooperative, human-centered security frameworks and the full inclusion of youth in disarmament diplomacy.
“Disarmament is not just a political responsibility—it is a moral duty to future generations,” Rehan stated during the session.

We delivered our offical civil society statement, urging States Parties to move beyond deterrence and toward Alternative Frameworks for Pursuing Security. Reminding them of what the Youth sees in such a critical moment in time and suggesting what our generation has to offer.
Our key messages included:
🔹Prioritize human security by placing the well-being of people and the planet at the core of peace and defense policies.
🔹Strengthen the role of common security mechanisms, including the International Court of Justice (ICJ), to resolve conflicts peacefully.
🔹Reinforce nuclear-weapon-free zones as stepping stones to disarmament and regional trust-building.
🔹Commit to a timebound framework to eliminate nuclear weapons by 2045, aligning with the UN’s centenary.
🔹Ensure that youth are not only included but empowered within disarmament negotiations and decision-making processes.

Groundbreaking Contributions at the 2025 PrepCom
Also Youth Fusion’s participated extended far beyond the plenary floor. Our delegates actively shaped discourse and brought youth perspectives to the heart of high-level events:
- Co-hosted and moderated the side event “Live from the NPT PrepCom,” in collaboration with Abolition 2000 and PNND, offering real-time analysis of the negotiations.
- Delivered key interventions during two prominent sessions:
- On Nuclear Risk Reduction, emphasizing the urgency of reversing course with the Doomsday Clock at just 89 seconds to midnight.
- On The ICJ and the Nuclear-Climate Nexus, linking disarmament to legal, environmental, and generational justice.
- Submitted a working paper to UNODA, titled:
“The UN Pact for the Future: Nuclear Weapons Spending and the SDGs in a Turbulent World,”
advocating for the redirection of nuclear budgets toward health, climate, and sustainable development goals.
